XMAS!

Will be mostly MIA until Friday or Saturday. Not counting calories, but I am exercising. 3 miles done this morning, in my bedroom, because Joe's brother is staying with us until Christmas day. Trying to make good choices. Lost 1 more pound last week, I forgot to post yesterday though!

2 weeks 3 days

Everything is healing great, and I'm getting caught up in life again. So many things to do and people to see now that I can.

I am swollen. Really really swollen. My waist before surgery was 35-36 inches, with extra muffin top/bottom above and below, out to maybe 40 inches. Now I'm just 40 inches all around at the worst of the swelling. A few days ago it was down to 38 inches, and I thought I looked amazing. I look down and I feel huge. It almost overhangs again, and I have to hold things away so I can see the incision line. Things feel so full that deep breaths are uncomfortable. The binders are my friend. Nice surgeon appropriated a smaller one from the OR for me, but it's a bit too small... and the one I have now is a bit too big. *sigh* My stage 2 compression garment should arrive tomorrow, hopefully that will be just right. I opted for one by Marena with an open crotch (looks like it has a flap with bra hooks) and no legs, that goes up to just below the bra line.

It's healing really well though, almost all of the surgical glue has come off, and with it the scabbing. My incision is a slightly lumpy red line. It feels like there is a taut (4mm?) rope below the skin. It's tender, especially above it, but also numb in some parts. Between belly button and incision is pretty much all numb. Surgeon says 6 months on feeling coming back. And 6 weeks on swelling going down, hopefully.

I tried on my silicone sheeting, it feels good. I got sheeting backed with elastic bandage, so it stays on and puts pressure on the incision. I'll start wearing it for real when all the scabbing is gone from the incision line. I peeled off a lot of glue and scap today, since yesterday the surgeon said that was OK. I feel like I'm healing really fast... less than 2 weeks after surgery and the incision was looking very well knit together.

I've been having more pain these past few days, being inactive doesn't seem to help or hinder that. I guess it's a healing thing.

And there's a suture or something poking out of part of the incision line. I'm afraid to touch it for fear of something structural coming apart.

For better comfort, I tried wearing larger binder lower and smaller binder higher, to compress all of the swelling. It was pretty OK.

Surival.

12/21 Journal.

Last night I ended up having 4 Smirnoff's, one tiny piece of cake, maybe 1/3 cup of queso con carne with chips (maybe 10 chips or so?), and prolly 1/4 cup "Zag Mix" (Cheetos, Fritos, pretzels, Doritos). Very pleased with myself, especially in the fact that I didn't let myself get hammered. I exercised today (40 minutes cardio) despite a nasty headache.

I've settled on white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies for Joe's Dad and red velvet cupcakes to take to his Grandma's.

Weekends, blah.

Weekends seem to be the bane of my structured plan! Journal for 12/19 and here's 12/20 (RIP Brittany Murphy).

Slept in super late today, like 10:30, laid in bed reading until noon before I got up and made myself a sandwich. Been doing laundry and playing WoW since Joe left for work. Got bored and did my workout. I did my TBL Cardio Max workout too! I still can't do the push ups because of my wrist and I still cried, but I did it! :) I just really wanted a break in my habit.

Eating dinner now, then I need to shower and get ready to go to Lindsay's for her birthday. There will most likely be cake and ice cream and I will most certainly have some, just not too much.

Christmas Eve, since I am off, I'm making cookies to take over to Joe's dad's house. And I'm going to put together little treat baskets for all the kids (Joe's cousins, his sister, his 'step' brother and sister) since we didn't get much for them in the way of presents. I'm so glad this week and next are only 3 day weeks.

(no subject)

SP journal for 12/17

Today is my Nana's 94th birthday. Still kickin', but I worry about her daily. I wish I could go visit more often, even if she doesn't remember who I am, I feel like I owe her. She raised me when my parents couldn't. Shower time, then off to work. TGITDBF! (thank gawd its the day before Friday!)

Healing, healing!

So I'm now a week and 2 days post surgery. Here's a bit of a timeline with key events! Surgery was on Monday, so...

Tuesday (day 1 PO) Home from hospital in evening, pain kinda controlled by 2 percocet every 4 hours.
Wednesday not very swollen, need to lie down with lots of propping up, hard to move because it hurts. Zonked out by percocet. Percocet wears off = pain.
Thursday swelling begins. Go to bathroom for #2 for the first time since surgery. It was a triumph. Still on lots of percocet. Moving still quite painful. Still can't stand up straight.
Friday had first guest, still zonked from percocet. Dose every 5 hours. Able to move a bit more.
Saturday decided to stop taking percocet because my caretakers said I was moving around too much for healing, so the pain could tell me what to do. Caved after 4 hours and took some ibuprofin. Found it to provide decent pain control without the fuzzy headedness of the percocet.
Sunday went to Costco! Rode around on one of the wheelchair thingies, and had a lot of fun. Felt tired and hurty by end of shopping trip, but it was going out of house, and that was great! Left side of wound had one open spot that is a bit oozy still. It had oozed into the gauze I wore under the binder and made something hard that was hurting me. Bandaged that up with a nonstick dressing, life improved.
Monday (1 week PO) got my drains out!!! Movement was a lot less constrained, and I found that I could sit in a lot more positions. And I took my first shower! It was short and careful, and I put waterproof bandages over belly button and the left side of the incision, but the hot water was heavenly!
Tuesday moved around more, cooked my first serious cooking since surgery. Walked about 1/2 mile to Whole Foods to pick up some stuff for the cooking. Went out twice for shopping. Bending down and getting stuff from floor is challenging. Standing up straight still doesn't happen.

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited. :) I was scared because Sunday was bad: Chicken Express and Wendy's. Completely pointless. COMPLETELY. I won't do that again. I have to count every day and walk every day to make this work. I could've had a bigger loss if I was working harder.

Freezing cold in the office this morning, Dr Stupid (is what I am calling him now) turned the heater off last night. WHO DOES THAT?! IT WAS 28 THIS MORNING. D:

Back to work now.

Another week.

12/14 Journal.

I'm not going to count calories/post journals on Sundays anymore. I'm going to let Sunday be my treat day.

Work sucks today. For whatever reason, I'm feeling a lot of animosity towards my boss. In general, I'm feeling a little anxious and angry, but honestly, when I get to work and EVERYTHING is a mess and now he's effing hovering. Grr.

Dreary.

Feeling depressed today. D:

I need to get my fast food spending under control, like hardcore. I indulged too much today and I'm going to be way over my calories. Here's my SP journal. I know that I can't be 100% within range 100% of the time, I need to treat myself. But damn. It wasn't worth it.

Time for 5 miles!
